About this artwork
Painting worked from free improvisation. Action painting with music from Johann Sebastian Bach.
Thinking back to the final scene of the film 2001: A Space Odyssey and an explanation given by its director Stanley Kubrick shortly before he died. Kubrick explained that the character is taken by god-like entities, creatures of pure energy and intelligence. They put him in what could be described as a human zoo for study and his entire life is spent… in that room but he has no sense of time. When they are done with him, he is transformed into some kind of super being and sent back to Earth, becoming the patron of mythologies of different cultures.
Landscape, nature, beings from this world and from others... everything passed through the filter of a dream and built on a wall marked by graffiti, dirt and the passage of time, in a big city.
Gestural, intuitive painting that lets things happen and relies on what appears.
Alfonso Sánchez, artist of biological origins whose main tool is painting. Experimenting with acrylics, Indian ink, sprays and tempera, he leads to an expressionist style, abstraction with figuration. It allows accidents to happen, resulting in spontaneously charming works. Through his art, Sánchez investigates the human essence, the ties with our wild nature and visions of the future, emanating an introspective and projective search for humanity.
