About this artwork
This painting is part of my botanical collection and reflects ongoing dialogue with classical botanical art and contemporary sensitivity. As a participant in prestigious botanical exhibitions, I work with close attention to accuracy, structure, and the true character of each plant.
The chrysanthemum is rendered with botanical precision, yet remains gentle and vulnerable. Its petals are open, slightly uneven, already touched by time. The work captures… the fragile nature of autumn, a season where form softens and silence becomes visible.
I paint on 100% cotton hot-pressed paper with a smooth, silky surface and a natural, unbleached white tone. This material allows fine detail, subtle color transitions, and a sense of lightness without excess.
Every petal, stem, and leaf is carefully studied, yet allowed to breathe. This work is not about decoration or idealized beauty, but about attention, patience, and respect for life in its temporary, delicate state.
Alisa Vovk is a Kyiv-based Ukrainian artist who primarily works with watercolor, expanding into oils, acrylics, mixed media, video, and storytelling. She blends botanical realism with impressionistic softness, using delicate layering, granulation, and fluid washes to explore the transparency and depth of the natural world. Her art reveals gentle tensions between clarity and atmosphere, encouraging viewers to notice beauty in the present moment. Her works evoke calm, nostalgia, and a poetic sense of longing—inviting reflection on fragile memories, emotional depth, and the quiet wonder found in simple things.
