About this artwork
This work reclaims the archetype of the Wild Woman by challenging the long-held assumption that prehistoric hunters were exclusively male. For decades, scientific narratives misread or dismissed female skeletal remains found with hunting tools, reinforcing a cultural myth of passive womanhood. Recent research revealed that many of those “male hunters” were in fact women - skilled, active participants in survival, mobility, and leadership.
The painting… captures the moment of re-embodiment: a female figure poised low to the ground, alert, grounded, and physically present. Her posture echoes animal instinct, readiness, and ancient knowledge. The vivid neon line encircling her acts as both boundary and energy - a pulse of wildness that was once erased and is now reclaimed.
Here, the body becomes a site of historical correction. The Wild Woman is not fantasy; she is evidence, restored to her rightful place in human history.
Alona Parnevych is a Ukrainian painter and printmaker with an academic art background, creating evocative works in oil, linocut, and graphic art. She employs layered oil painting and classical techniques, merging them with contemporary graffiti-like gestures, translucent anatomical forms, and bold symbolic contrasts. Her art pulses with the tension between vulnerability and power, aiming to unsettle, provoke, and spark contemplation about identity, feminism, and transformation.
"A very beautiful painting that has found a perfect spot in our holiday home."
