About this artwork
The artwork “Intention of the Ruling” explores themes of optimism and modern heroism, connecting the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur with contemporary issues in New York’s capitalist landscape. It emphasizes the need for love and justice in decision-making to achieve sustainability and reflects on historical peace efforts like John Lennon’s bed-in protest.
This work is part of the Spiral Thresholds series, which is inspired by the ancient metamorphosis… myths on the one side and the UN sustainable development goals on the other side. Work needs to stay available for the upcoming Urgent Optimism exhibitions.
Alura works primarily in painting and textiles, informed by early training from her family and formal study at ArtEz University of the Arts in the Netherlands. She employs a technique of slow, meticulous construction on large-scale canvases, layering surfaces to create unique, unrepeatable works that are physical records of time and process. Drawing on metamorphosis, geometric systems, and the spiral as organizing logic, her art evokes the tension between vulnerability and strength, transformation and order, inviting viewers into a contemplative emotional space.
