About this artwork
Nympheas is a series of works dedicated to the beauty of the water lily and the lotus, which bloom in the morning and retreat to the bottom of the pond at night. In ancient Greece and Eastern cultures, they symbolize rebirth. The aim here is to capture both the violence and the fragility of the passage of time. The series was exhibited at the Antonio de Súñer Gallery in Madrid and is accompanied by a catalogue with explanatory text by Antonio Muñoz… Molina. This particular work appears in that catalogue.
Amaya Amaya is a painter trained in Manolo Valdés's workshop and holds degrees in Ancient History and Classical Philology, with experience in archaeological drawing. Her unique technique oscillates between abstraction and figuration, where the image emerges organically from the canvas's underpainting, without shadows, prioritizing color and texture. Her works explore the monumentality of nature and the reinterpretation of reality, powerfully conveying the fragility of time and the richness of ancient ruins.
