About this artwork
The scene I composed has a large, stylised tree taking up a significant portion of the upper middle ground, with branches reaching the top and bottom. The tree's trunk is depicted in brown, appearing slightly out of focus. I painted the woman using various shades of blue. The overall framing is loose, creating a sense of space and a non-detailed backdrop. Elements seem loosely positioned within the image, with the colours and forms working together… to suggest the landscape rather than depicting accurate detail.
The artistic medium I chose is watercolour, which is noticeable through the fluid, painterly strokes and by using washes of colour. The style of the painting is abstract and expressionistic, with no clear focus on realistic representation. There is no defined perspective or lighting source. The focus is on emotional expression rather than detailed depiction.
The colours are mixed and layered with a loose style that adds to the artistic interpretation of the painting.
An Hata Gorm is a multifaceted artist with a profound connection to the natural splendour of Connemara, Ireland. She tailors her approach to each project and skillfully orchestrates a rich symphony of colours on canvases and other materials. Her art conveys a sense of playfulness, tranquillity, bliss, and subtle undertones of melancholy, effectively capturing her profound emotional engagement with the surrounding world.
