About this artwork
"Icarus' Burnout" revisits the myth to make it a contemporary metaphor. Curled up in himself, a man sees his wings burn out, crushed by the injunctions of success imposed by society, particularly those that weigh on man: to succeed, to provide, to sacrifice his time to work rather than spending it with family.
The cool tones convey apathy and depression, while the bursts of red, orange, and yellow embody suffering and inner turmoil.
The cigarette,… burning between his fingers, becomes the symbol of a slow self-destruction, where the quest for legitimacy gradually erodes physical and mental health.
