About this artwork
I remember that morning — a warm wind from the sea, the scent of pine and salt, and a view that stopped me mid-step. Saint-Tropez lay below me like a scattered handful of terracotta and white, and the bell tower of the Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption rose toward the sky in its ochre, sun-drenched glory — self-assured, unmoved, as though it had stood there forever and would stand forever still.
I wanted to capture not so much the view, but the… breath of this place. Sails on the water — white sparks at the boundary of blue and navy — rushing somewhere beyond the horizon. Houses pressed tightly together, as if guarding a shared secret. Trees that remember more than we do.
I laid the paint with a palette knife and my fingers, because a brush was too calm for what I felt. This city is loud even in silence — full of light that beats from the walls, from the water, from the very air itself.
Let this painting take you there for a moment. Let it be your window to the south.
