About this artwork
Tribal Instinct belongs to the Homage to Cave Painting collection and is a symbolic evocation of the deepest origins of the human imagination. At the center of the composition, a simple animal figure emerges, almost a primordial shadow, inserted into a narrative band that runs through the work like an archaic tale. The bas-relief on a plaster background gives the surface a strong tactile quality, while the use of oil, spices, and oxides generates… a dense, living material, imbued with memory. The sinuous lines and modular lateral forms recall a ritual language, made of repetitions, traces, and shared symbols, evoking man's earliest figurative expressions. The earthy, muted hues, combined with the spiraling motifs of the background, suggest a cyclical and ancestral time. The work thus establishes a bridge between contemporary gesture and cave painting, conveying a vision in which creative instinct resurfaces as a universal and timeless matrix.
« The painting of the future was born in caves, since art has always been the most fascinating medium with which matter depicts the spirit. »
