About this artwork
This artwork is a slightly cubist approach to the artist's favorite theme of cats. Here the cat is chasing a white dove, symbolizing freedom and also the spiritual dimension. The cat has fish in a bowl, symbolizing fruits of the unconscious, however, there is a longing for the spiritual and transcendent, symbolized by the bird. Created during the Covid19 Coronavirus pandemic forced quarantine, this bright and upbeat, positive work of art reflect… the artist's longing for higher spiritual levels and to the change of focus from the material to the spiritual. Just like a bird in flight, spiritual ideals are sometimes difficult to grasp, specially compared to the habit of living a material life, symbolized in this painting by the bowl of fish. Aside from the symbolic content, the artist makes allusions to Pablo Picasso as well as Rufino Tamayo, and uses his trademark incorrect perspective that adds to the magical feeling of all of Osta's cat paintings.
