About this artwork
This painting is a reflection of my plein air journeys in the Carpathians — moments when I painted under the open sky, listening to the silence of the mountains and observing nature’s awakening.
I vividly remember a particular phenomenon on such spring days: smoke rose not only from the chimneys of village houses but also from countless open fires around. The locals were tidying up after winter — burning dry branches, wood remnants, and preparing… the land for new life.
Those spring scents of smoke, fresh grass, and moist air became part of this image. I conveyed them through textured impasto strokes applied with my fingers — so that every inch of the canvas would feel alive and breathing.
The soft blue slopes in the background evoke a sense of calm, while the blooming meadows in the foreground pulse with the energy of spring.
This work is more than a landscape — it is a moment of renewal, when people, nature, and fire merge into one, and the world seems to awaken again.
