About this artwork
This painting is inspired by the myth of Cupid and Psyche—a love born in secret, tested by hardship, and made immortal by trust and devotion.
I used acrylic paints and thick impasto brushstrokes to evoke both the sensuality and the struggle of their story.
The background, painted on real gold leaf, symbolizes the divine presence—a reminder that love, even when hidden, can be sacred.
Each brushstroke is layered like a whispered promise: material,… vulnerable, and profoundly human.
Focusing on the close-up of their kiss, identity fades—what remains is emotion, suspended in time.
The palette of soft ivory, luminous gold, and delicate blues reflects both the tenderness of their bond and the purity of Psyche's heart.
The style oscillates between realism and abstraction, echoing the dreamlike tension of their story—that space between mortal and divine, doubt and faith, shadow and light.
Since childhood, she has dedicated herself to the visual arts. She studied at the Ripetta artistic high school specializing in painting and sculpture, from September 2018 to June 2023. Since October 2023, she has been pursuing her degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
Artistic Activity Art critic and historian Gabriele Simongini referred to Anfissa Vassé's style as «Byzantine Pop Art» a synthesis of pop art and Byzantine iconography, in which golden backgrounds, symbolic two-dimensionality, and abstract images blend with the visual language of mass culture.
Cultural Projects Selected by RCS Sport as the official painter of the Giro d'Italia 2025, she created a bodypainting version of the iconic Maglia Rosa 2025.
