About this artwork
The magic hour is that time of day when the sun goes down but the sky is light. It's twilight. In France it's called the Blue Hour. The artists loves this time of day. The light is best, the shadows are long. The buildings on the canals light up with a pink light, especially in winter when he sun is low.
All the small works in this Amsterdam series are semi abstract. They are like little sketches that might be turned into giant canvases. This piece… is created with palette knife. The paint is applied precisely and thickly. It was great fun to paint this way.
This small painting is high quality oil on canvas. The canvas is cut to size and needs to be framed. The artist mounts it on a wooden board to facilitate framing. It would make a great addition to a collection of other small works.
Angie Brooksby is an internationally renowned American artist who has lived in Europe since 1988. A recipient of numerous prizes and scholarships, including those awarded by U.S. senators, she holds a BFA in Sculpture from the prestigious Maryland Institute College of Art, where she studied under John Shan. Her artistic education continued at S.A.C.I. and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy.
Though classically trained in figurative sculpture and painting, Brooksby has shifted her focus to abstract works inspired by the flora and architecture of the French Riviera. Her paintings aim to capture and radiate light, transforming the wall into an expanded, luminous space. To obtain the most light she uses mixes, classical painting techniques with spray paint, collage and gold leaf.
After 21 years in Tuscany, 15 years in Paris, she is based on the French Riviera.. Her atelier gallery, Nouvelle Galerie Massillon, is located in the historic center of Hyères.
