About this artwork
The "Feather Arch" is part of the collage series "Embossing." It was created during a four-month artist residency at the Cordts Art Foundation on Schwanenwerder Island, near Berlin, Germany.
Seeds, leaves, shells, aquatic plants, and much more are found objects from the garden of the artists' residence, the adjacent Wannsee lake, and the nearby Grunewald forest. The brass discs are also found objects. Their patina gives them a partly matte, partly… reflective appearance, allowing viewers to vaguely identify themselves in the work.
The series documents individual perceptions and experiences on site through a subjective selection and arrangement of found objects. The reflection in the gold-colored metal discs points to the value we place on ourselves and invites personal self-knowledge.
"Anja Asche is an experimental artist with social resonance. Her multifaceted work ranges from objects, installations, and drawings to photography and video.
Asche has an eye for the small, for things or phenomena that seem so commonplace or insignificant that they are overlooked or not noticed. In her fragile, delicate, and at first glance seemingly ephemeral objects and installations, which she creates from wax, plant seeds, grasses, branches, lichens, and other found objects, she explores the fragility and transience of existence and the fragility of identity in a subtle, minimalist, and highly convincing way. ...“ Urszula Usakowska-Wolff
Anja Asche has exhibited nationally, as well as in Poland and Switzerland. She has received several art awards and residencies. Her works are featured in renowned collections. Asche works and lives in Berlin, Germany.
