About this artwork
Snakeskin – Snake skin
The fragile exoskeleton of a large python, shed and abandoned, becomes the starting point of this image. What once protected is now empty – a delicate, translucent structure poised between presence and disappearance. On the canvas, this trace transforms into a silent testament to change.
Snakes – both feared and admired in Australia – embody a special form of movement: supple, silent, in constant flux. Their locomotion… appears as a glide through space and time.
As an ancient symbol, the snake represents transformation and renewal in many cultures, for example in the image of the Rod of Asclepius. Shedding its skin marks the moment of letting go – the prerequisite for growth and new beginnings.
The image condenses these levels of meaning: It tells of transformation, of the beauty of transience, and of the power that lies in change.
Anja Gienger is a freelance artist in Tübingen. She primarily uses acrylics, ink, and oils in her diverse works. Her mostly abstract pieces emerge from free fields of color, multi-layered structures, and experimentation with materials such as earth, pigments, ash, and fabric. She creates vibrant contrasts that reflect moments of change and polarities in life. Her art conveys a deep, moving resonance, invites reflection, and reveals beauty in imperfection, in the interplay of light and shadow. Her work is influenced by her love for Taoist movement arts. She has practiced and taught Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Bagua, and meditation for decades. Since 1998, Anja Gienger has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Germany and abroad. She has been a member of GEDOK Reutlingen since 2026.
