About this artwork
This piece is from my bird series. I was thinking a lot about freedom—not as movement or escape, but more as a kind of inner space. The two big birds are fragmented across several circles. They’re not flying, not moving at all. Just still. But that stillness feels full—like each part is quietly holding a different possibility, a different version of being.
The circles aren’t meant to trap them. They feel more like alternate realities or moments… in time—layers of presence. For me, it’s not about breaking the birds apart, but showing how we never exist as just one thing. We're always a bit scattered, stretched across experiences, identities, timelines.
I used green and yellow to keep the atmosphere warm and open—there’s something hopeful in those colors, even if the forms are suspended.

Anja Spagl is an artist based in France who has exhibited her works nationally, as well as in Germany. Being a proud vegetarian and animal lover, she often portrays animals and explores the human-animal relation in her compositions. Occasionally, Spagl's pieces also contain subtle critiques towards today's society. She paints using acrylics and oils on canvas. Originally a way of escaping reality, art is now her full-time occupation.
