About this artwork
"Shifting away from my broad color palette, I engaged with colors Jean-Michel Basquiat used which appealed to me. The African symbols are there, but this time in bold red set against yellow and grey/black. It is a departure I enjoyed." The symbols used in the work relate to African themes such as a good marriage, protection, friendship, working together, development, etc. They are intended to imbue the hanging space with positivity.

Ann Gadd, an award-winning South African painter, has exhibited nationally and in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Italy. Usually painting in series, Gadd’s unique blend of naive and pop is translated through acrylics on canvas. Her ADD means she switches from series according to mood.
