About this artwork
When the artist first saw a white rhino, she was confused that, rather than being white, it was basically the same color as the black rhino, which was also not black, but grey. It brought up questions of race and segregation, which appear as one thing - named by society, but in essence isn't reality. Gadd layers her work using texture, symbols and imagination to create her unique artworks.

Ann Gadd, an award-winning South African painter, has exhibited nationally and in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Italy. Usually painting in series, Gadd’s unique blend of naive and pop is translated through acrylics on canvas. Her ADD means she switches from series according to mood.
