About this artwork
Created in 2023, the work is dedicated to all those who died in the war in Ukraine. The golden yellow of the fields and the dark blue of the sky represent the struggle between light and darkness, life and death. The colors of the Ukrainian flag are severed by a wound of material blood, which continues to flow because the war is still ongoing. The blood has no nationality, it represents that of both Russian and Ukrainian soldiers and also of the numerous… civilians. The sky, in shades of blue, is animated by white signs, a reminder of the fighting even in winter, in the snow, in the cold. In the work there is also a reference to Van Gogh's "Wheat Field with Flight of Crows", his spiritual testament, where color is seen as the value of metaphor. "Blood on the wheat fields" received the certificate of merit at the 2023 Mestre Painting Prize, distinguished for the quality of the work.
The work was exhibited at the Contemporary Art Exhibition Arte Bratislava, at Bratislava Castle, Slovakia.
