About this artwork
At the end of autumn, I found these mahonia leaves scattered across the ground in the shrub border. Their spikiness and twisted forms caught my eye, a kind of quiet defiance against the decay and fading light around them. There was something striking about them, as if they were holding on to a last remnant of vigour and stubborn life as winter crept closer.
