About this artwork
The gravitational pull of the moon is unbroken. Modern space travel has rediscovered it as an object of research. High in orbit, the Lunar Reconnaissance orbits our satellite to map its surface.
The artist Anne Wölk is also fascinated by the surface structure and the lunar geography. With pencil hatching, she creates a play of light and shadow that describes the nature of the fine and sharp-edged material. The many impacts, over millions of years,… have created a dramatic mountain landscape, some of which can be visually compared to volcanic rock on Earth. In contrast to the "crater desert" of the moon, Anne Wölk stages the blue of the ozone layer as a mysterious halo around the earth. The beauty of the blue color makes the lunar regolith appear even grayer. Nevertheless, the moon is partly responsible for the preservation of life on earth. Its gravitational pull creates the tides.

Anne Wölk is a Berlin-based painter whose work explores the intersections of astronomy, speculative fiction, and contemporary landscape painting. With atmospheric color and precise lighting, she develops visionary topographies that straddle realism and imagination. She has had international solo exhibitions at the CICA Museum (South Korea) and the Casa da Cultura Ericeira Museum (Portugal). In 2025, her work was featured in the Herbstsalon of the Kunstverein Erlangen at the Kunstpalais and in the Casa da Cultura Ericeira's 2024 Retrospectiva. Her work will be published in 2025 in Issue 9 of Artsin Square magazine, curated by Galerie Droste. Wölk's painting emerges from the dialogue between scientific curiosity and the search for imaginary habitats beyond the known.
