About this artwork
This piece was inspired by Shakespeare's play Midsummernight's Dream. In the play, the heroin drinks a love potion (philtre d'amour) that will make her fall in love with the first person she will see upon waking up. Unfortunately, she wakes up in a forest and the first creature she sees is a donkey. As expected, she will indeed fall madly in love, but with a donkey instead of the lover she was supposed to set eyes on. This will lead to a series… of ironical twists and turns, to the audience's delight. The painting depicts the moment before the heroin wakes up, the cup emptied by her side. It symbolizes the smile and rosy vision one has before waking up, knowing that unconditional love awaits. The artist wanted to capture the romantic twist of the play, even if Shakespeare saw it in a sarcastic way.
« Colors and shapes flow like music out of my mind. They resonate with love, joy, peace, and self-acceptance. »
