About this artwork
This painting and this series was born out of a desire to experiment with textures and weaves. I pay homage to the skilled craftsmen of the exquisite and timeless Bengal Tant Saree and the Yellow Ambassador Taxi - both unique to Bengal. The craftsmanship of Tant Saree in general dates back to 15th C and the yellow taxi back to early 20th C- the latter may become a thing of the past soon, with the advent of modern cabs. This artwork thus exemplifies… a narrative steeped in tradition and history. Its presence in your space is a constant reminder of timelessness and ingenuity, gracing your home with a spirit of sustainability. This experimental work is done using my own Saree that I have worn - I have recycled it for a timeless art by attaching it to a stretched canvas and then painted over it. It cannot be rolled as the delicate cotton of the Tant Saree on which the painting is done, is glued onto a mounted canvas which is stretched on wood - to give it strength.
