About this artwork
I created this work with oil pastels on cardboard (70 × 50 cm), working with quick, intuitive gestures to capture an emotion rather than a face. I'm interested in that fragile moment when an expression changes, when an invisible thought alters the gaze: it's precisely that transition I tried to capture.
The saturated yellow background allows me to forcefully bring out the figure, almost as if suspended in a mental space. The greens and blues of… the body, interrupted by touches of red and orange on the face, represent for me an internal tension: a sense of movement, of restlessness, or perhaps simply of introspection.
I often use oil pastels because they allow me to work directly, unfiltered: the lines remain vivid, imperfect, and immediate. In this work, I tried to let the material itself convey the emotional fluctuations of the figure, inviting the viewer to imagine the story behind that gaze.
