About this artwork
This is the first work I painted with Vicente Navarro, my publicist friend who accuses a great vocation as an artist. While I worked as a creative at Saatchi & Saatchi in those tireless afternoons of scratching concepts to sell anything, Vicente invited me to make a drawing between the two of them. We thought to do it in some special role that we found. Finally in the corner of the office, we found an abandoned mattress. Ideal! We turned it into… a reliquary of sacred diamonds with the symbols that each mystery, interest and magic evokes for each of us. All of them are painted with gold-silver oil. There is a bit of everything, and they are confused with the silver stitching of the floral motifs of the mattress itself. We think that someone would have slept, loved, fallen ill and above all dreamed on this mattress. We love these objects. And there they are guarded in an urn like the treasures of the Dolphin.
« I wanted to be a pilot, but I ended up painting. Now I fly higher. »
Arturo Prins is an exciting Spanish artist whose style comes from a sensibility of play, discipline, freedom and rebellion, redoubled in a constant reinvention of himself. Thematically, Prins looks to delve into metaphysics, symbolism, esoteric cosmogony, while mixing in humor to soften the transcendent themes in his work. He also describes his work as being "nostalgic for the future, sometimes with a nod to the eclectic spiritualism between East and West."
