About this artwork
We think a lot with Rafael about the possibility of painting the portrait of the world. We sought to unmask the planetary psyche, between the two. Rafael sees that the world has nailed an empire like a razor blade on itself, a United States as the only kingdom on the ocean of our planet that is taught in the luminous face. There is a vacuum of continents, only North America cuts the world. And so he painted it. The location of the planet in the picture…
is through the summation of our birth dates, his vertically, mine horizontally, giving the location near the golden zone. I decided to think of the dark side of the planet as the place where it hides what will one day be better. Hope is his soul, I thought, and how would he paint it? I ruminated the idea of painting a flower that always seduces me, a lotus that floats in a large drop of water that nourishes its roots, but does not drown it. The flower breathes the warm air that comes from a spinning white wheel of fire.
