About this artwork
Influenced by post impressionism, with cubist approach to composition, the goal here is to utilize the whole surface of the support challenging the viewer’s perception of negative space. Essentially divisionist, the figure/composition is woven in to the fabric of the plane and space warps in to the figure. Atom Hovhanesyan (1981-2018) was an Armenian artist who worked and lived in both Los Angeles and New York. His paintings have been posthumously exhibited in the United States and China. Hovhanesyan's distinctive post-divisionism style manifests through line, gesture, and the creation of complex and compelling spaces that act as points of departure, while also conveying mysterious painterly energy.
