About this artwork
In this work, I merge realism and surrealism to explore the themes of inner strength and resilience. Depicting a majestic lion in an everyday human environment defies convention and symbolizes the inner power hidden within each of us. The fish floating around its head represent incessant thoughts, highlighting the struggle against our own mental barriers. The addition of the modern sneakers and novelty socks adds a touch of irony and contemporaneity,… inviting reflection on personal identity and the courage to assert oneself. The lobster in the bag is a nod to the sometimes absurdity of what humans can put in place to "get better." This painting will bring reflective energy and bold charisma to any living space.
Barbara Greindl, a contemporary Belgian sculptor, boldly explores the absurdity and beauty of the world through works full of humor and commitment. Barbara grew up in an artistic environment influenced by a mother who restored old paintings and a father with eccentric ideas. After working on masterpieces by Flemish masters, Rubens and Rembrandt among others, she turned to contemporary creation. Today, her bronze sculptures, her murals and her oil paintings subtly question the paradoxes of our society, between surrealism and Belgian humor.
