About this artwork
The painting TURNER CITY was created using acrylic mixing technology. It is a semi-abstract illustration of the skyline of a metropolis today. However, it is not a special city, it could be any city in the world. The motif is blurred and is reminiscent of William Turner's style of painting. The artist worked in numerous layers of different structural materials as well as earth in order to achieve a haptic effect. In some places, the surface is deliberately… cracked, so that a ramshackle impression is created. The painting is characterized by lightness due to the delicate coloring and immediately very solid due to the structures. It also appears very plastic due to the depth of the frame. The work is not framed, but can be hung up immediately.
« For me, representational and abstract paintings play a synonymous role. When I look at my work, I have to say, "That's it!" »
Barbara Schauß is an established German painter whose works have been exhibited in regional and national exhibitions. Her love for art began as a child when she discovered her father's books of world famous paintings. Inspired by the Impressionist movement, Schauß was greatly moved to paint after seeing Monet's "Fields in Spring" and famous lily pads. She also experiments in abstract painting, working in both oils and acrylics. Schauß is compelled by colors and aims to represent an overall atmosphere, whether harmonious or discordant, through her work.
