About this artwork
I find the very idea of colour blindness quite disturbing. My brother is colour blind and his multi-colour blindness has taught him tricks for surviving in a diffuse, colour-coded world he cannot distinguish. Clothes are sorted into outfits in his wardrobe because someone told him they look good. He knows the traffic light is red because it is the light above. If he is far enough away at night he approaches it very slowly until he sees that it is…
the light below, the green one, and he can cross the road. He did not buy any bananas yesterday because they did not have dark freckles and he was not sure if they were very green or yellow...
Cats are also colour-blind and seem to have it all under control. This cat, let's say blue, doesn't even care that the words don't match his tone, or that the background is a chaos of shades. In his world, colour is a matter of shadows and contrasts.

« I explore the essence of art and am intrigued by the "why" of works that last over time, as well as the why of those that fall into oblivion. »
Begoña Lafuente is a painter and illustrator based in the Netherlands whose works have been widely exhibited internationally, as well as in Spain. For her, art is a timeless conversation where not everything is said and "the essential is diluted." Lafuente describes her works as a game of combinations that combines materials, textures and colors, improvising new routes for the senses. In addition, she integrates movement and contrast in her compositions to cultivate visual and emotional tension.
