"Jicarilla" is a portrait of Vash Gon, leader of the Jicarilla Apache tribe. Inspired by a period photograph taken by Edward S. Curtis in 1904, this work transcends gender by making a woman's face emerge from that of a man, thus symbolizing the unity of Apache men and women.
