About this artwork
This work captures a winter scene in Megève, where the mountain stands out in a soft, enveloping light. The almost immaculate snow absorbs the forms and simplifies the landscape to the point of near abstraction.
In the foreground, a line of brightly coloured cars animates the composition. They bring an unexpected visual rhythm, contrasting with the silence and stillness of the alpine winter.
The painting plays on the balance between human presence… and natural immensity. The free and expressive brushstrokes convey a feeling more than a specific place.
The omnipresent light bathes the scene in a calm and luminous atmosphere. This work invites us to experience the mountains differently: in their gentleness, their vastness, and their contemporary poetry.
Trained at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Bertrand de Miollis makes travel the foundation of his work. Since 2002, his expeditions—a tour of Africa, the Trans-Chilean route, Paris–Kabul, Lake Baikal—have nurtured a sensitive perspective on the world. In Afghanistan and Iraq, he accompanied French and British troops; his travel journals were published in the press and by various publishers.
He also develops the "immobile journey" through artistic immersions: polo, opera with John Eliot Gardiner, residency within the Paris Opera.
Watercolor, oil, engraving, and then digital media: his research, fueled by motif, lies between abstraction and figuration. A confident colorist, he explores a vibrant tension between softness and chromatic intensity.
