About this artwork
Fascinated by the sea and wide open spaces, this painting depicts the immensity of the sky. A tiny red sail, rendered almost abstractly, sails by. Its small size only amplifies the impression of vastness. Above the boat, a cloud catches the light and turns yellow. It seems to indicate a favorable course for the sailor.
I wanted to capture here the gentleness of a moment suspended between sky and sea, where light plays with subtle nuances. Through… impressionistic touches and a palette imbued with Fauvism, I sought to evoke a calm, almost meditative emotion. This artwork will bring a soothing and poetic atmosphere to your home, inviting reverie and contemplation.
Trained at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Bertrand de Miollis makes travel the foundation of his work. Since 2002, his expeditions—a tour of Africa, the Trans-Chilean route, Paris–Kabul, Lake Baikal—have nurtured a sensitive perspective on the world. In Afghanistan and Iraq, he accompanied French and British troops; his travel journals were published in the press and by various publishers.
He also develops the "immobile journey" through artistic immersions: polo, opera with John Eliot Gardiner, residency within the Paris Opera.
Watercolor, oil, engraving, and then digital media: his research, fueled by motif, lies between abstraction and figuration. A confident colorist, he explores a vibrant tension between softness and chromatic intensity.
