About this artwork
I wanted to capture a moment of tranquility and seclusion here, where soft light caresses these solitary houses. Through this refined realism, I expressed the simplicity and melancholy of a remote retreat. This artwork will bring a serene atmosphere to your home and invite contemplation, like a soothing breath that leads to profound calm.
Trained at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Bertrand de Miollis makes travel the foundation of his work. Since 2002, his expeditions—a tour of Africa, the Trans-Chilean route, Paris–Kabul, Lake Baikal—have nurtured a sensitive perspective on the world. In Afghanistan and Iraq, he accompanied French and British troops; his travel journals were published in the press and by various publishers.
He also develops the "immobile journey" through artistic immersions: polo, opera with John Eliot Gardiner, residency within the Paris Opera.
Watercolor, oil, engraving, and then digital media: his research, fueled by motif, lies between abstraction and figuration. A confident colorist, he explores a vibrant tension between softness and chromatic intensity.
