About this artwork
This was a commissioned oil painting, one of several where the collector wished to be reminded of a garden and the feelings of pleasure and beauty that she always felt when in the presence of flowers. It is a very calm, soft, and subtle piece that calms one 's soul reflecting the calla's metaphysics of purity and divinity.
I was given free reign to create , the size of each piece being determined by the wall. I let her know when each painting was… finished. She always knew immediately if it resonated for her or not. Only one was returned to change the background colour as it made her " jumpy". A perfect client: quick, decisive, with virtually no constraints in terms of creativity other than her overall taste and aesthetics. She would call of a morning to say that she had sat for most of the night admiring the various paintings I created for her. How beautiful a compliment for any artist! All the pieces came back to me upon her death.
