About this artwork
In this work, I explore a quiet moment of inner change.
I am drawn to the space between vulnerability and strength — the point where something begins to shift, but has not yet fully revealed itself. The figure is intentionally simplified, without defined facial features, allowing the focus to move from identity to feeling.
I work intuitively with soft, muted tones and layered brushstrokes, letting the composition emerge gradually rather than following… a fixed plan. The process is as much about removing as it is about adding — leaving space for what is unspoken.
Unfolding is not about a specific person, but about a state of being. A moment of turning inward, where something new is quietly forming beneath the surface.
Carita Wallius is a Helsinki-based painter and printmaker with a background in graphic design, which deeply informs her sensitivity to composition and clarity. She employs minimal yet expressive techniques, embracing the tactile possibilities of etching, aquatint, and intuitive brushwork to create soft palettes and simplified forms that feel both spontaneous and controlled. Her art explores the quiet emotional landscapes of the female experience, inviting viewers to connect with moments of presence, vulnerability, and transformation through works that are both powerful and contemplative.
