About this artwork
This work is intended to be a deep and meaningful tribute to the legendary singer Amy Winehouse.
The black and white evokes Amy's timeless, classic aesthetic, recalling the atmosphere of her music videos, such as the entirely black and white one for "Back to Black", where the singer appears in an emotionally charged context.
The use of cotton thread and nails on poplar board adds a tactile and three-dimensional dimension to the work, symbolizing… the complexity and depth of Amy's personality. These materials can represent the challenges and tensions she has faced in her life and career.
The red rose, the central element of the work, is a powerful symbol of passion, love and beauty. Incorporated into the context, the red rose represents for me the emotional intensity and passion that Amy has infused into her music.
Carla Maira, born in Milan and raised in San Cataldo, moves from drawing and painting to String Art, using iron nails, wood and cotton threads. Her technique mixes creativity and precision, transforming threads and nails into unique works of art that range from abstract compositions to figurative representations. Her works, rich in careful details and a design that captures light and emotion, explore individuality and the desire for liberation of the soul, transmitting a deep awareness of the self.
