This relief wall scupture is done with multiple layers of granulated cork on cork fabric (cork leather) stretched on a wood frame, gallery wrapped.
Carla's cork art pieces are eco-friendly and aim to support the cause of global sustainability:
Cork is a 100% natural raw material, that is 100% reusable and 100% recyclable,… extracted from cork oaks without harming the normal development of the species and without damaging the tree. The extracted cork is 100% harnessed.
The production of cork does not destroy trees. After harvesting, the cork oak undergoes a process of self-regeneration not seen in any another species.
Black cork is not coulored with any pigments.

Carla Sá Fernandes is an exciting Portuguese artist who has exhibited her work in India, Italy, Portugal and the US. Formerly a chemical engineer and sales and marketing executive, she quit her job full-time after the birth of her son to dedicate the free time that remained to painting. Her works are emotive and visceral, created spontaneously and with intimate passion.
