The Walls of Ms. Li #1
This painting is part of the “Cinema” series, which was inspired by Wong Kar-Wai’s film “In the Mood for Love” and consists of fourteen works; this is one of the last three in the series. The first eleven paintings are executed in a literal style based on frames from the film, while the last three, including this one, take a different approach with a composition in which the image is divided into nine parts… that fit together like a puzzle. Here, Mrs. Li, one of the film’s protagonists, is depicted. The materials used are oil and pastel.
