About this artwork
A worn, well-used pointe shoe – a symbol of grace, discipline, and transience. I wanted to capture the moment when beauty and exhaustion merge. The shoe is no longer pristine; it bears the marks of movement, sweat, and time. It is precisely this wear and tear that brings it to life for me.
The violet-brown background is meant to highlight the shoe, but also to evoke a mood of melancholy. It represents the stage after the performance, when the applause… has died down and only the object remains – silent, yet full of history. For me, the true poetry of dance lies in this moment: in the afterglow, in the fading, and in memory.

Caro Krebietke lives in Stuttgart. She is an artist and curator. She studied Fine and Applied Ceramics at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, but works in a wide variety of materials and techniques.
Caro Krebietke has participated in numerous international residencies, including in Germany, France, Norway, the USA, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Namibia, Vietnam, Romania, and the Czech Republic. Examples include the residency grant at Lichtenberg Studios in Berlin (2022), artist-in-residence in Træna, Norway (2018/2019), and the “Hit The Beat” project in Namibia (2013/2015).
Her artistic works have been exhibited in various countries, including Germany, France, Spain, Russia, Vietnam, Romania, Denmark, Switzerland and Great Britain.
Caro Krebietke is a versatile artist who distinguishes herself through international collaboration and interdisciplinary projects.
