About this artwork
Through this series of paintings I seek to give shapes, contrasts, compositions to emotions. It is a way of making visible what is subtle, fluctuating and impalpable. To do this, I work on the impulsive and emotional gesture that is put into the treatment of the support. Carolyn Mortier, a French-Australian painter based in Paris, fuses art and science in her artistic approach. Using oil and acrylic on canvas and wood, she also incorporates substances from biological research laboratories. Since 2015, she has been developing "emotional repertoires", modifying pH and temperature to create unique shades of color. Her fascination with the invisible, nourished by her research studies in Arts and Sciences at the Sorbonne, leads her to manifest hidden emotions through expressive works. Her creations question our relationship to emotions, making each composition a visual exploration of the intangible.
