About this artwork
El Niño means little boy in Spanish and is a moniker used today to describe the warm ocean water currents. These have a strong influence on both our weather and water patterns under and above the ocean. Here a strong man is used as a metaphor for the powerful ocean current. The strong current whipped up by the man is further described by the swarm of fish swirling as well as the hammerhead sharks swimming in a circular pattern around him. The warm… water is alluded to by the sunbeams not too far from the churning action which gives the viewer the idea that they are close to the surface where the water is warmer.
Bringing attention to how miraculous our natural world and ocean function as is an important for me as and artist as well as for the viewer to recognize and realize the importance of all of us doing our part to keep our perfectly working natural world in order and also to recognize is sheer power.
Cassie Tumlinson, trained in traditional oil painting and based between Arizona and Germany, masterfully bridges fine art and urban muralism. She merges oil and spray paint, combining precision with the expressive freedom of mixed media, and infuses her surrealist compositions with movement and symbolism. Her art explores environmental themes and human nature, evoking curiosity, irony, and a deep emotional resonance that forges a lasting connection with the viewer.
