About this artwork
This work, titled "Sangue Inedito," is extremely charged with tension and contrast. It presents itself as a dialogue between geometric order and instinctive chaos, combining elements that recall both European abstraction and Eastern calligraphy. The work seems divided into two worlds:
- The right side features defined geometric shapes (a red square, a dark polygon, and a light diagonal line). This recalls Suprematism or Constructivism, suggesting… rationality, structure, and control.
- The left side is dominated by a broad, calligraphic black line. This fluid, almost instinctive stroke recalls Abstract Expressionism or Oriental calligraphy revisited in a modern key. It seems to represent vital movement, uncontrolled impulse.
The horizon is the strongest structural element. The lower part is a dense, material, and pulsating red.
The term "Blood" in the title finds its visual expression here.
Caterina Manginelli primarily uses oil on canvas, but experiments with silk, cotton, wood, leather, and sheet metal, enriching her artistic research with a solid background in textile design and decoration. Her works blend planning and instinct: regular brushstrokes alternate with rapid gestures, creating a striking balance between idea and spontaneity. The vivid and textured color interacts with the surface to evoke deep, hidden emotions, imbuing her compositions with a gentle poetic evocation that moves the viewer.
