About this artwork
When I enter the studio, I don't know in advance what I'm going to work on. Creating an image and meeting the unknown are my main desires. I have no explanations or methods. Differences between artisans and artists for me. You just have to remember in broad outline, that my painting, my work is simple in the sense that I create with what I am at the moment I work; I do it in complete Freedom, far perhaps from trends, or certain compromises; I do… as I want to do, with, nevertheless, a certain requirement towards myself. Then, the so-called work of art exists only through the one who looks at it.
Chantal Cartier is a painter born in Le Mans into a family of musicians. For more than 30 years, she has dedicated her life to painting, an art that allows her to "write" emotions and perceptions deeply rooted within her. Alongside painting, she also works with ink, collage and photography, three disciplines which complement her research work. Today, it is in her studio located in Charente-Maritime that she continues her artistic approach, immersed in a setting that inspires calm and reflection. The meaning of her work, of her research, is nourished by what she experiences and what she sees.... She attempts to capture a certain essential in an instant, oscillating between abstraction and figuration, using matter and form. "I am not looking for an "explanatory" painting, but a painting of feeling, of emotion."
