About this artwork
In Chromatose Horizon, I explore the liminal space between a violent light source and a heavy, "bruised" environment. This work is a departure from traditional earth-toned landscapes; instead, I have utilized a high-chroma, mineral-based palette of Cobalt Violet and Perylene Maroon to evoke a sense of geological or atmospheric suspension.
The depth of the water is achieved through a meticulous glazing process, layering transparent veils of deep… red and cool blue over the underpainting. This technique creates a "liquid" translucency that anchors the composition, allowing the dark, plum-toned depths to vibrate against the hazy sky.
The mountains serve as a structural silhouette, their edges softened by atmospheric perspective to suggest a humid, moisture-rich air. A singular, razor-sharp Teal glint on the far-right horizon provides a critical cool-toned counterpoint, bringing the vast violet voids into sharp relief and drawing the viewer’s eye across the luminous central reflection.
My work is an exploration of the threshold where coastal light meets atmospheric mass. Moving away from representational form, I focus on the 'Glow Core'—the emotional light trapped within layers of sea mist and fog. Utilizing a signature multi-stage oil process, I build physical topography through textured foundations before submerging them in translucent glazes of blue, green, and emotional magentas. My paintings do not seek to depict objects like clouds or waves, but rather the energy, depth, and tidal movement of the atmosphere itself. Each piece is an invitation to inhabit a space where the horizon is felt rather than seen.
