About this artwork
A rose-washed shoreline unfolds beneath a sky of mauve and lavender, where land and water dissolve into one another through gentle tonal shifts. The tide curves inward rather than outward, drawing the eye into a quiet centre where movement slows and colour deepens. Soft pinks and muted violets dominate the surface, held in balance by low, grounding forms along the horizon. The painting feels hushed and reflective, as if the sea is carrying memory… rather than motion.
Part of the Held Water series, this work explores the sea as a container for emotion — a place of pause, rest, and quiet endurance. Across the collection, softened horizons and restrained movement create spaces that hold stillness rather than spectacle, inviting the viewer to linger, breathe, and feel gently supported.
As a contemporary oil painter, my work explores the quiet tension between atmosphere and light. While my practice is rooted in the logic of the seascape, I find myself moving toward a more luminous abstraction, seeking to dissolve the boundary between the horizon and the glow. Because I work within accessible formats due to my disability, I focus on transforming medium-scale canvases into vast emotional fields. I achieve this through: * **Layered Glazes:** Building depth and transparency to capture shifting light. * **Mineral Textures:** Adding a physical, grounded element to the ethereal. * **Diffused Radiance:** Creating a sense of expansion that moves beyond the frame. To me, light is living matter—it shifts, breathes, and expands across the surface of my paintings. Whether I am painting an atmospheric horizon or an abstract luminous core, my goal is to invite you into a state of stillness. In these pieces, I want color to feel like air and the glow to be tangible.
