About this artwork
In this work, created by a child begging on a dock on the island of Rhodes, I wanted to capture his sonic quest through the playing of the violin, a symbol of passion and emotion. Each colored ball floating around the musician represents his desire to leave, and each ball on the ground his imprisonment on the island. The figurative and symbolic elements evoke a search for harmony between imagination and tradition. We find echoes of the Mediterranean… region with the ever-present game of dominoes, clay tablets suggesting the nearby Middle East, and the colorful dance of the sound balls that seize our thoughts.
Christian Bajon-Arnal primarily uses painting, a medium shaped by his dual artistic and scientific training, as well as the profound influence of his artist aunt. His technique is personal and unique, combining effects such as oil flakes applied with a palette knife or grains of rice, spontaneously adapting to his diverse subjects, ranging from everyday life to nature. Through his works, he seeks to evoke profound pleasure and contagious joy, inviting contemplation and dialogue.
