About this artwork
It all began with the eyes. For me, the eyes are the emotional anchor of the painting, the gateway to the animal's soul. Meticulously painted in acrylic, these eyes dictated the entire intensity of the composition. It was from this spark of… life that the rest of the face was able to take shape.
What followed was a captivating physical confrontation with the material: a work of nearly 28 hours where I fixed, one by one, approximately 14,500 metal staples.
In an almost meditative gesture, the metal ceased to be a mere industrial fastening tool and became the very coat of the leopard. Each staple captures and sculpts the light in a unique way, giving the coat a relief and texture that changes depending on the viewer's position.
