I was inspired to paint the Coppertone Girl Ad in combination with the New Mexico state flag. The Aztec symbol for the sun on the flag worked perfectly and conceptually for the product. Paint brushes and paint spatters, and drips were added as they lay on my painting as I work on my art table. It's a painting of a painting in progress. I was a user of this tanning lotion as a kid, so it was a natural theme for a painting.
Chuck Middlekauff is a mixed media painter with a BA in Fine Art from Metropolitan State University of Denver, and an Associate Degree in Design and Advertising from the Art Institute of Colorado, Denver, Colorado. He spent several years in graphic design and commercial art in Denver, and Los Angeles before pursuing a career as a fine artist. Chuck paints American culture icons in visually stimulating bright colors and bold graphic compositons. He wants others to experience the things the way he sees them, the America of today, and of days gone by, but in a fresh and unusual way. Chuck says, "I paint everything I have ever seen or heard that excited me."
