What if a flower could change the temperature of a room? Amaryllis was born after a stroll through the Singapore Botanic Gardens on a sweltering afternoon, where the heat made the air vibrate. I stopped before an incandescent corolla and I held onto that shock of color: amaranth reds and vermilion, honey gold, acid greens and purplish shadows, smooth and vibrant texture, light splashes like pollen. In an interior, I seek a quiet ember that warms… without weighing, that illuminates the walls and creates a gentle verticality, a point of energy that unites the space. And what if the memory of a flower could linger in the light?
Claire Lassonnery is a French painter and pharmacist who has developed a unique contemporary lacquer practice, which she learned in Vietnam and perfected between Asia and France. Her technique combines the tradition of lacquer and impasto, using layering, polishing, and sculpture to shape living surfaces where light is embodied and dialogues with the material. Her works, rooted in scientific rigor and exile, distill silent emotions and a meditative depth, inviting us to feel rather than see, and to traverse the inner world.
